These tuxedo cupcake toppers are perfect for a wedding shower or as wedding favors. They fit both standard and jumbo sized cupcakes, and better yet, they are completely edible!
What You’ll Need:
I made the base for these toppers several days ahead of time; this allowed them to dry enough to keep their form, but stay soft enough to bite.
Begin by kneading the white fondant until it’s soft enough to roll out, but not sticky. Roll out into a 1/8-inch-thick sheet and cut out circles using a cookie or doughnut cutter. Place the circles on a baking sheet lined with wax paper and keep at room temperature. Keep in mind that you may need to smooth the edges with your finger if they are not perfectly clean. (see pictures below)
Brush the visible white section lightly with water (or alcohol) with a small paintbrush (do not over wet). Place the two tiny leftover triangle pieces in this space with their points connecting. You may need to trim the wide edges of these pieces to make them even with each other or fit the space better.
To assemble, pipe one swirl of icing on the prepared cupcakes using the Star tip #2D. Place one cupcake topper flat on the icing immediately, and press lightly in the center to adhere. Keep in mind that these toppers can be allowed to dry completely solid and stuck vertically into the icing as well.
Remind guests that everything is completely edible. The fondant and buttercream together may be too much for some people, but the toppers can always be peeled off. Instead of discarding them, however, try drying them until solid and using as a keepsake (e.g., in a shadow box). Namaste!
