This year, I went to New York on the day before St. Patrick's Day and the mood was especially festive in the city; with the parade and droves of people adorned with various green colored trinkets and garb.
My husband accompanied me, but due to our hectic schedule, we weren't able to go out for a long romantic dinner.
La Taza de Oro

I have actually been walking by this Cuban dive diner for about 15 years on various trips and always wondered what it was like inside. This trip, arriving in the city hungry and cold, we decided the time had arrived to go in.
We entered and sat at the counter. We found there are a host of regular specials and after checking them out, we decided on the goat stew and oxtail for $9 each.
500 Avenue of the Americas, NYC
Always a favorite, I recommend going for the Traditional Bagel with Nova Scotia lox, capers, a thick slice of red onion and tomato. In my opinion it is the perfect bagel.
About $11 each, it is well worth it. One large bagel can feed two adults for breakfast depending on how hungry you are, or the leftover half packs well for a snack on the ride home.
You might also want to grab a half dozen bagels to take home, because you won't get bagels this good anywhere in Pennsylvania!
Locations throughout NYC
I had always heard rave reviews about the Shake Shack on the Food Channel but never took the time to try their food.
On the Upper West side, shortly before the concert, restaurants were packed and we didn't have time to wait for a fancy dinner. So as an alternative, we popped into the local branch of the Shake Shop and were pleasantly surprised by their fast efficient service, reasonable prices, and gourmet beer selections.
We devoured cheeseburgers, which were juicy and beefy. The fries were excellent and they have a rotating flavor selection of daily shakes and custards.
Totally satisfied, we left with happy bellies and a happy wallet.
Shake Shack is very kid friendly and a good option for families when you are in the city. The chain is located throughout the city, however, this summer I hope to visit the location with outdoor seating in Madison Square park.
